Mr Gerry Ryan, President of FIBKA will give a talk on the Federation of Irish Beekeeper Associations. The lecture will take place in Teagasc on Monday 11th December 2017 starting at 8pm.
Spring 2018 - Beginners Course

Tuesday 7th November 2017 - AGM
The 2017 Royal County Beekeepers Association Annual General Meeting took place in Teagasc on Tuesday 7th November 2017 at 8pm. Minutes will be published by the committee in time.

Sunday September 24th 2017 - Honey Show Preparation
Michael Gleeson started by gdiscussing Show Schedules and continued by explaining the various class available at Honey Shows. He further discussed the ideal jar to be used for showing run honey. After tea and sandwiches a workshop developed on judging honey. Everyone took the opportunity tasting and comparing the various honeys that people had brought. To end it Michael showed a Frame of Comb honey which he graciously cut up for all to take a sample home. Of the honey's sampled..... Michael's own Ling honey was deemed by all to have been the 'best in show'. No wonder he does so well! Hopefully the talk / workshop will encourage more to enter our own show in a few weeks time.

Eamonn Magee gave a talk on feeding our bees, both in Spring and Autumn, as well as emergency feeding. He also covered the various feeds that could be used, as well as the feeders and techniques that are utilised.

Being the time to be thinking about how we are going to deal with our bees during the swarming season. He doesn't breed swarmy bees but Eoghan MacGiolla Coda still knows a thing or two about swarm control.
Monday March 13th 2017 - Making honey mead
David Lee gave a talk on making honey mead. Having brought all the equipment up from Cork, the only difference was the water. Enjoyed by all, especially the tasting!
Spring 2017 - Beginners course (5 weeks)
The 2017 Royal County Beekeepers beginners courses will start during February 2017. There will be a course running in Navan and another in Kells. Both courses will cover subjects including an introduction to beekeeping, equipment, disease and pest control and honey production. This will be followed by a workshop day covering hive and frame assembly, the smoker, hive hygiene and when the weather picks up, meet the bees. During the active beekeeping season there will be a number of visits to the apiary following the seasons work with the bees and a chance to do some hands on beekeeping. The cost of the course includes annual membership to RCBKA and FIBKA, insurance for beekeepers and and years subscription to An Beachaire the Irish Beekeeper magazine.
The course in Navan Education Centre, will start on Tuesday February 21st at 7.30pm. The second course will commence on Monday 27th February and will be held in the Headfort Arms Hotel, Kells (7.30pm). Please contact the RCBKA secretary to reserve a place or for more information. *Note there the Kells course will not be held on Monday March 13th as this clashes with the lecture in Navan on making honey mead.

Sunday September 11th 2016 - The Phoenix Park Honey Show
On Sunday next the 11th of September the 2nd Phoenix Park Honey Show will take place. With 26 classes there is something to suit everyone, junior, novice and experienced beekeeper. The wide range of classes caters for both liquid and comb honey, wax, honey cakes, biscuits, mead, candles, photographs and art.
Wednesday February 24th 2016 - Beginners course (5 weeks)

It will consist of five evening sessions held in the Education Centre, Athlumney, Navan, Co Meath for approx. 7.30pm to 8.30pm. The course will cover subjects including an introduction to beekeeping, equipment,disease and pest control and honey production. This will be followed by a workshop day covering hive and frame assembly, the smoker, hive hygiene and if the weather is right meet the bees.
