Wednesday 17th of April 2024 at 7.30pm Final lecture of the season. Mead is often referred to as “nectar of the gods” and is possibly the oldest alcoholic beverage on earth. It was a popular drink in Roman times and an essential part of Viking culture. Mead (Mid in Old Irish) was drunk in medieval Ireland and a banquet hall on the Hill of Tara was known as Tech Mid Chuarda, ‘house of the circling of mead’. In Ireland it was said to have been made in secret by Irish Monks.
Tasting of mead is included as part of this evening lecture.
